City Network Applet Instructions
Click here to run City Network Applet
In order to use the applet, Java must be enabled in your browser. Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator are the two recommended browsers to use. If you receive a message to download a plug-in, click yes and the process to download it will begin. (The download is necessary in order to use the applet). Next, pick the closest location to you and click the install button. After the file is downloaded, click yes to accept the licence agreement and then click next to complete the installation.
Your video display must have a resolution of at least 800x600 pixels for the applet to work properly.
This applet determines a path from a start city to a finish city in which each edge's distance is less than the previous edge's distance. To start, enter the start city and end city. (All city names are not case sensitive. The applet will interpret, for example, NYC and nyc to be different cities). Then click enter information. Next, enter the edges in the network, one at a time (enter a start city, an end city, and the distance between them, then click enter information). For demonstration reasons, there is a limit of seven cities in the network. The network will be drawn as the information is entered. When you have entered all the edges in the network, click the start animation button. Green city names represent cities on the correct path. Red city names represent backtracking.
Please do not resize the browser window during the animation.
To restart the applet, click the broswer's refresh/reload button. To quit, just close the browser.
