Realism
By 1840, if not before, many artists believed that the Romantics’ view of the world was too simplistic. They thought the world needed a clearer vision that revealed nature, society, and politics as accurately as possible. This gave birth to “Realism,” and painters now showed everyday people at work. Sometimes they portrayed the “dullness” of reality with brutal honesty.
