Gothic
Medieval church architects in the 12th century developed a new kind of architectural style that was suited to growing cities and the demands of crowds of pilgrims entering churches. Gothic buildings have pointed arches, ribbed vaults, stained-glass windows, flying buttresses, and carvings on the exterior. The 19th century saw a resurgence of Gothic styles.
