Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau (“new art”) began as a decorative style in fabrics and graphic design, but it spread to architecture and furniture in the 1890s. Art Nouveau emphasized floral and vegetal forms, and these buildings often have asymmetrical shapes, arches, and decorative surfaces with curved, plant-like designs. Art Nouveau offered a link between Romanticism and Modernism.
