Defining On a two-dimensional surface we usually perceive shapes or "figures" surrounded by more or less empty space. These figures are often referred to as the positive space of a composition, while the empty space surrounding the figures is called the negative space.
	A composition can be made more dynamic by using a technique called "space activation". This entails altering the arrangement of shapes to create negative spaces that are more interesting and active.
