Visual Texture

Pattern

Invented

When the formal or expressive desires of the artist cannot be met by simply reproducing existing textures, the artist can invent his or her own surface effects. Imaginative patterns of value and color can be used to create surfaces that have no precedent in the "real" world. These invented textures can create areas of visual interest without the burden of association to actual objects.
