Subtractive

There are two different color systems, additive color which deals with mixing light, and subtractive color which uses dyes and pigments. Each system requires a different set of primaries. The subtractive color system often makes use of a color wheel that uses the three familiar primaries red, blue and yellow. Studio artists are more likely to use the subtractive color system, while designers, who work increasingly with computers, are more likely to employ the additive color system.

Click on the appropriate brush to "apply" paint to the palette. Click Mix or Mix All to display the resulting combination of hues. Note: This is an idealized representation. Differences in the quality of paints or the choice of specific hues can have a dramatic impact on the purity of mixed colors.
