Buildings exist to accommodate people who move through the space, and architects plan for the circulation of people. The flow of movement begins as people enter a building, and continues throughout their time in the building.

The movement of people through a space is always related to purpose. Why are the people in the space, and what is their destination? Within the structure, movement flows through pathways that accommodate various intersections and changes in direction. Architects must organize interior spaces with the flow of traffic in mind to avoid congestion and feelings of confusion. The flow through a building can also extend vertically as people move upward through a tall building.
