Proportion

Anthropometry

Anthropomorphic proportioning systems seek to create aesthetically pleasing buildings by using the mathematical proportions of the human body. Renaissance architects, for example, designed churches in which the proportions of bodies were mirrored in the floor plan. The theory is that we intuitively find such proportions satisfying.

Interior spaces are even more influenced by anthropomorphic proportions because interior forms and spaces are designed to accommodate the human body, and should therefore adapt to human dimensions. We are comfortable in interiors that suit our size, and architects must design accordingly.
