StoryboardSince film is a visual art form, in the pre-production phase the script has to start to be transformed from a written to a visual form. The main tool in this process is the “storyboard,” which consists of comic-strip-like drawings of individual shots or portions of shots with descriptions written below each drawing. The written descriptions might include notations about costume, lighting, and camerawork. Most directors do not ask for a storyboard for every scene, but action sequences and shots using special effects tend to be storyboarded in detail so the cinematography unit can get a preliminary sense of what the finished shots should look like. |
