Costume

Like setting, costume contributes to the mood and realism of a film. Costumes can help to define the period, location, and environmental factors (such as the season or weather). Costume can also help characterize the actors, including their status and personality factors.

Costume designers also have to synchronize the colors of the set with the patterns and colors of the costumes so the costumes (and make-up) create a vision that is unified in mood, tone, and color.
