Post-Production

Editing

During filming, many more shots are made than can be used in the final film. In the editing process, the director and editor cut unwanted footage, usually by discarding all but the best take. The editor also cuts superfluous frames from the beginnings and endings of shots, and then joins the desired shots.

The editor also decides how to join the shots – by gradual fade-outs or cuts. Digital editing has greatly facilitated the editing process, but it still requires the good artistic eye of a director and editor.

Select a film clip on the left and click the arrow in the circle to play it. Drag film clips from the left to the Final Edit area (the numbered boxes) and then click the Play button to see how your combination of clips creates meaning.
