Social environmentLiterary works can transcend a reader’s’ own social environments to allow readers wider experiences. Skillful authors can re-create new time periods and new social environments in ways that can transform a narrative and give readers new perspectives. Sometimes themes can be best illuminated by placing readers in social environments similar their own, and sometimes dramatically different environments can make a more powerful statement. Either way, authors have to make conscious decisions about the total settings of their works. |
