Arena Theater

The audience in an “arena theatre” sits surrounding the performance space, so they view the play from all sides of the action. Directors have to be careful to arrange the performance in a way that is visible from everywhere in the theatre and interesting from all sides. Therefore, plays written for an arena theatre have almost no scenic elements. Instead, the actors must engage the audience through their own performances and a powerful script that will transport the audience into the action without the help of scenery.
