Acting

Voice/Speech

Actors must use their voices to deliver speeches that will communicate the feelings and thoughts of a character. Performers seek distinctive vocal characteristics to show such things as a character’s emotions, intents, gender, and age.

To communicate effectively, actors have to control all the following aspects of speech: 1) volume; 2) pitch; 3) enunciation; 4) emphasis; 5) attitude; 6) speed, and 7) dialect. It is not enough for actors to learn their lines; they have to learn how to say the lines in order to effectively convey their characters.
