Acting

Emotional sensibility

One of the hardest things actors have to do is to express the emotional states of their characters; this is called “emotional sensibility.” Emotional sensibility is conveyed through a combination of voice and body language, and it is essential to strike exactly the right level of emotion in order for the audience to believe in a character.

Believable performances strike a balance between too much emotion or not enough. Too little emotion is called a “flat” performance, and too much is called “excessive.” It takes great skill to project just the right amount of emotion.

Click the arrow inside the circle to see a performance that exemplifies an emotional state. Drag the small video clip to the column on the right and place it in the most appropriate row and column. When you have correctly placed all three clips in a row, you will see a check mark appear to the left of the row.
