RelationshipActors must be aware of two different kinds of relationships that occur while they are on stage. The first is actors relating to each other. To do this, actors must stay in character and imagine themselves in a true relationship with the other actors. The second is a relationship that develops between the actors and the audience. This can take two different forms. In most plays the audience is simply the observer, and the emphasis in the action is the relationship among the actors within the performance. However, some plays have the audience take a “participatory” role, in which the audience can affect the outcome of the performance. In participatory theatre, actors must be able to adapt to the audience quickly and improvise as the play progresses. |
