The first module of the 7th edition provides a more contemporary look at IT opportunities and business impacts in 2005. Indeed, the majority of changes are in Module 1. The first chapter provides a clearer description of how to do both a business and IT strategic audit. The second chapter caused confusion in the last edition because it examined the impact of IT on organization design and then also looked at networked industry design. The 7th edition simplified the second chapter to simply look at the impact of IT on organization design and then added a new chapter on the impact of IT on extended enterprises. The 4th chapter removed confusing material on valuation and simply looks at how to make the business case for IT.
Updates to the technology infrastructure and project management chapters were made in Module 2.
In Module 3, the outsourcing chapter was updated to include information on offshoring and insourcing and a note was added on global perspectives. In addition, areas of confusion with the risk management chapter were also clarified.
