Contemporary Management presents a fresh and integrative view of the manager in the workplace. This text approaches the manager as a person, working with people and within an organisation, with values and ethics. This approach to management raises issues that are relevant to the workplace today, such as diversity, cultural change and managing globally. While planning, leading, organising and controlling are integral to management, successful human interaction and communication are the real basis for effective and efficient management in business.
With a range of activities included in the Management in Action section, students have the opportunity to work individually and within a group dynamic to explore the managerial skills they will need in the workplace. International, Australia and New Zealand case studies, both in-text and on video, will challenge their ideas about management and its application. These case studies have been carefully selected to appeal to student interests and to encourage students to recognise how management theory applies in practice, within the context of real organisations.
