Anatomy & Physiology Revealed Version 2.0
Administrator Privilege Requirement

Issue:

McGraw-Hill’s Anatomy and Physiology Revealed (APR) software requires local administrator privileges when it is initially run on a computer. If you do not have local administrator privileges on the computer you are using, the following message is displayed:

"It appears that this computer has a level of security which prevents this software from running. Please visit the following URL to view instructions for using this software: http://www.mhhe.com/aprkey".

Resolution:

There are two ways to resolve this issue. The first one is to simply grant local administrator privileges to the user who is trying to run the APR software. This is the obvious solution for anyone running APR on a computer they personally own. Proper instructions for changing the user privileges in the operating system you are using should be available in the system help files on your computer.

The second method addresses the case where the user is working in a laboratory environment (where the computer, and it’s privilege settings are not under the direct control of the user). In this case, the user will need the assistance of an IT administrator who has administrator privileges on the laboratory computer to run APR on the computer initially. Once APR is run once on the computer by a user who has administrator privileges, it will no longer require this level of access to run the APR software.

Special Note to IT Administrators:

If you maintain the integrity of your computers by distributing and installing a "system image" to all of the machines on campus, you can run APR on the master computer while logged in as a user with administrator privileges, and then distribute the image of this computer. This will allow all of your campus computers to run the APR software as if someone had already taken the steps detailed above on each campus computer.
