1. You have AB blood. Can you determine the blood types of your parents? Could your parents have had a child with type O blood?
2. You have just had a baby with erythroblastosis fetalis. This was your first baby and you were treated with RhoGAM after this delivery. Should you consider having another child.? What should you take into account before making such a decision? Also, should you now stop donating blood at your local center? Why or why not?
3. Is there a physiological advantage to forming the platelet plug prior to completion of clot formation? Explain your response.
4. At a recent medical examination, you weighed in at 120 pounds, or 54 kg. Your physician commented that you have about 4,500 ml of blood. Is this cause for concern? Why or why not?
5. Aspirin reduces the ability of blood platelets to stick together. Why are people told to avoid taking aspirin before donating blood? Considering the circulating life span of platelets, how long would you have to wait after taking aspirin before its effects on the platelets were eliminated.
