Students
There is much more to Anatomy & Physiology than this book. Numerous study aids for the student round out the learning package. The first two of the following items are packaged with every new copy of the book. The others can be ordered from the McGraw-Hill Customer Service Department at 800-338-3987.
• The Essential Study Partner prepared by Susanne Kalup, Westmoreland County Community College, is a two-disc CD-ROM study tool packaged with every new copy of the book. It contains 120 animations and more than 800 learning activities to help your students grasp complex concepts. Throughout this book, you will find a CD-ROM icon M beside topics that are animated on the ESP, and at the beginning of each chapter we provide a list of related topics that can be found on the ESP. Interactive diagrams and quizzes will make learning stimulating and fun for your students. When a question is answered incorrectly, the CD-ROM provides a link to a tutorial section for further review.
• The Clinical Applications Manual is a collaborative work by Ken Saladin & Colleen Nolan of St. Mary's University. It follows Anatomy & Physiology chapter by chapter, expanding on its clinical themes, introducing new clinical topics of its own, and providing test questions and case studies to develop the student's ability to apply his or her knowledge to realistic situations.
• The Online Learning Center at auth.mhhe.com/ saladin offers an extensive array of learning and teaching tools. The site includes quizzes for each chapter, links to websites related to each chapter, supplemental reading lists, clinical applications, interactive activities, art labeling exercises, and case studies. Students can click on a diagram of the human body and get case studies related to the regions they select. Instructor resources at the site include lecture outlines, supplemental reading lists, technology resources, clinical applications, and case studies.
The Student Study Guide that I wrote for the first edition has been updated and adapted by Robert Beck, University of Illinois-Chicago, for web access at the Online Learning Center. Students can also download a copy from this site. The Study Guide includes an extensive discussion of academic survival skills and study tips for A&P students, along with review exercises and practice tests for each chapter of the book. I feel that testbanks are more effective when written by the author of the main textbook, and so I wrote all test questions for both the Study Guide and the Instructor's Manual.
• The Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory Manual by Eric Wise, Santa Barbara City College, correlates human and cat anatomy using the same line art as this book and supplementing it with photographs of the dissected cat. It is accompanied by a separate Instructor's Manual that includes a guide for grading laboratory reports. (0-07-038896-2)
• The Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory Manual-Fetal Pig by Terry R. Martin, Kishwaukee College, provides excellent full-color photos of the dissected fetal pig with corresponding labeled art. It includes World Wide Web activities for many chapters. (0-07-231199-1)
• The Web-Based Cat Dissection Review for Human Anatomy and Physiology by John Waters, Pennsylvania State University, is an online multimedia program containing vivid, high-quality labeled cat dissection photographs. The program helps students easily identify and review the corresponding structures and functions between the cat and the human body. (0-07-232157-1)
• Dynamic Human Version 2.0 is a set of two interactive CD-ROMs that cover each body system and demonstrate clinical concepts, histology, and physiology with animated three-dimensional and other images. (0-697-38935-9)
• The Interactive Histology CD-ROM by Bruce Wingerd and Paul Paolini, San Diego State University, includes 135 full-color, high-resolution LM images and 35 SEM images of selected tissue sections typically studied in A&P. Each image has labels that can be clicked on or off, has full explanatory legends, offers views at two magnifications, and has links to study questions. The CD also has a glossary with pronunciation guides. (0-07-237308-3)
• An Atlas to Human Anatomy by Dennis Strete, McLennan Community College and Christopher H. Creek takes a systems approach with references to regional anatomy, thereby making it a great complement to your regular course structure, as well as to your laboratory. (0-697-38793-3)
• The Atlas of the Skeletal Muscles, third edition by Robert and Judith Stone, Suffolk County Community College is a guide to the structure and function of human skeletal muscles. The illustrations help students locate muscles and understand their actions. (0-07-290332-5)
• Human Anatomy and Physiology Study Cards
by Kent Van De Graaff, R. Ward Rhees, and Christopher Creek is a set of 300 3 x 5 cards with terminology, pronunciation guides, word origins, diagrams, and concise descriptions of anatomical and physiological concepts. (0-07-290818-1)
• The Coloring Guide to Anatomy and Physiology
by Robert and Judith Stone, Suffolk County Community College emphasizes learning through the process of color association. The Coloring Guide provides a thorough review of anatomical and physiological concepts. (0-697-17109-4)
• E-Mail Support from the Author. Many students took advantage of my offer in the first edition to
e-mail me for personal discussion, clarification of physiological concepts, and suggestions for future editions. I welcome students and instructors to continue contacting me personally at ksaladin@mail.gcsu.edu.
Instructors
The Anatomy & Physiology teaching package includes the following supplements for instructors, available from your McGraw-Hill sales representative or by calling 800-338-3987.
• We provide 950 Overhead Transparencies, including fully labeled copies of every item of line art in the book, unlabeled duplicates of many of them for testing purposes or custom labeling, and some of the tables. (0-07-290791-6)
• The Instructor's Manual and Test Item File by David Evans, Pennsylvania College of Technology includes supplemental topics and demonstration ideas for your lectures, suggested readings, critical thinking questions, teaching strategies, and lists of media sources and supply houses. For each chapter, I wrote a testbank of 75 questions in 4 formats. Although few textbook authors write their own testbanks, I felt that a test bank written by the author could better reflect the textbook than one contracted out to an independent writer. (0-07-290788-6)
• Microtest is a computerized test generator free upon request to qualified adopters of this book. The test generator contains the complete test item file on computer disk for Windows and Macintosh formats. (Windows 0-07-290790-8; Macintosh 0-07-290789-4)
• Course Solutions is an integrated answer to your specific teaching needs. A content expert in A&P will correlate your syllabus with this book and our supplemental media. You will be provided with a printed Course Integration Guide written by Mark Taylor, Baylor University, that enables you to easily locate the book pages and supplemental materials tied to the order of presentation in your course. Course Solutions also offers an online Student Tutorial Service and a Consultant Service for Instructors at auth.mhhe.com/saladin. (0-07-235892-0)
• PageOut is McGraw-Hill's exclusive tool for creating your own website for your A & P course. It requires no knowledge of coding. Simply type your course information into the templates provided. PageOut is hosted by McGraw-Hill.
• The Visual Resource Library is a CD-ROM that contains labeled and unlabeled versions of all line art in the book. You can quickly preview images and incorporate them into PowerPoint or other presentation programs to create your own multimedia presentations. You can also remove and replace labels to suit your own preferences in terminology or level of detail. A prepared PowerPoint lecture outline by Sharon Simpson, Broward Community College, is available on the CD-ROM. (0-07-290792-4)
