Decibel Damage


High-frequency deafness is more common as we get older but there is an increase in this type of deafness in younger people. The cochlear cells responsible for high frequency sound detection are especially prone to damage. Loud music played (or any other sound) for just 8 hours above 90 decibels will cause some permanent hearing loss. Students may be confused by the logarithmic decibel scale.
