Contraceptives
However a person feels about contraceptives, a good way to test one's understanding of the reproductive process is to understand how contraceptive devices work. The instructor may try a "grab-bag" approach to make this more fun: type or write out the names of different methods on separate slips of paper and allow each student to take one slip out. Give the students time to look up the answers and have them give oral or written reports, depending on what the comfort level is. Here are some choices: condom, vasectomy, tubal ligation, IUD, hormonal methods such as pills, injection, and implants, and RU-486. If you think there would be time and interest, you might assign reports on the social and ethical issues related to the use of RU-486 in the United States.
