  6. Describe the functional differences between the major salivary glands.
  7. Describe the anatomy of the esophagus.
  8. List the anatomic and physiologic characteristics of the stomach that are most important to its function.
  9. List the anatomic and histologic characteristic of small intestine that account for its large surface area.
  10. Describe the structure of the liver, the gallbladder, and the pancreas.
  11. Describe the anatomy of the large intestine.
  12. Describe the peritoneum and the mesenteries.
  13. Explain the functions of the oral cavity.
  14. Describe mastication and deglutition.
  15. Describe the stomach secretions and their functions, and explain how they are regulated.
  16. Outline the three phases of stomach secretion regulation: cephalic, gastric, and intestinal.
  17. Describe gastric movements, stomach emptying, and their regulation.
  18. Explain the functions of the secretions of the small intestine, and describe their regulation.
  19. List the major functions of the pancreas, the liver, and the gallbladder, and explain how they are regulated.
  20. Describe the functions of the large intestine.
  21. Describe the process of digestion for carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins, and list the products of digestion for each.
