Key Revision Changes

  1. Art Program
    Approximately 25% of the illustrations will be new to this edition. The illustrations are a collaborative effort between the author and illustrator, often actually dissecting cadavers to ensure accuracy and clarity. Many illustrations have been revised for greater accuracy and clarity.

  2. Critical Thinking Questions
    New critical thinking questions are included at the end of each chapter under review activities.

  3. Body Reference Icons
    New body reference figures will appear within illustrations to provide students with a better orientation for understanding the figure. They will be predominately in the skeletal and muscle chapters.

  4. Multimedia Tie-Ins
    The textbook will be correlated with the Dynamic Human CD-ROM. A dancing man icon will appear in appropriate figure legends.

  5. Electronic Image Bank
    New to this edition will be a CD-ROM containing virtually all the art from the textbook. The CD contains an easy-to-use program that enables the user to move quickly among the images, show or hide labels, and create a multimedia presentation.

  6. Case Studies
    Interesting case studies will open each chapter and contain a photo to highlight the material.

  2. Current and most acceptable terminology.
  3. Chapter outlines permit the reader to see at a glance how the chapter is organized and what major topics will be included.

  10. Color-coding is effectively used to promote learning. For example, the bones of the skull are color-coded so that each bone can be readily identified throughout the chapter.
  11. Derivations of many terms are explained in footnotes that indicate their Greek or Latin derivations.
