Correlation Guide to the ASM Core Curriculum
Chris Woolverton, Kent State University

This correlation guide was compiled in order to assist you in integrating the textual material presented in the fourth edition of Microbiology by Prescott, Harley and Klein into the Undergraduate Microbiology Curriculum recommended by the American Society for Microbiology.

The American Society for Microbiology has recommended a core curriculum designed as a platform on which microbiology should be taught. The curriculum was developed by faculty from community colleges, four-year undergraduate colleges and universities to serve as a common experience for all students taking an initial microbiology course. The recommendation also includes a core laboratory curriculum to augment and extend the lecture material. The ASM is currently preparing a peer-reviewed database of curricular material for both the lecture and laboratory components of a microbiology course. These content-rich exercises will provide a multi-faceted experience for microbiology students.
