1. While the chapter lists many different physical and chemical agents used for controlling microbial growth, what one or two common actions of these agents actually results in microbial death? What does this say about our ability to control microbes? 2. Explain why 70% alcohol is required to kill bacteria while 90% is ineffective. Use your answer to predict the alcohol concentration required to inactivate viruses. 3. Of note is the fact that the better anti-microbial products are toxic to humans. Explain.
