Land Degradation

Ten percent of the earth's land is currently used for agriculture. There is additional land that could be put into production. However, expanding cropland would mean the loss of natural habitats and grazing lands. In addition, much of the land not currently used is marginal land that is not ideal for crop production because of poor soil, sloping topography, and poor climate conditions.
