Urbanization

When societies go from being more agrarian to more industrial, there is a movement of people to urban centers (urbanization). The United States underwent a dramatic rural-to-urban shift since 1790. A similar, but less dramatic, shift has happened worldwide. In 1850, 2% of the world population was urban, but in 1995, this number grew to 45% of the population.
