Light Receptors

Rods and cones are light receptors that connect to bipolar cells. These in turn connect with ganglionic cells whose fibers become the optic nerve. Rods respond to dim light. Cones respond to bright light and distinguish colors. The fovea centralis, in the center of the retina, has only cones and is the area of highest visual acuity.
