This is a ventral (front in humans) view of the heart. The right side (in blue) receives and pumps deoxygenated blood. The left side (in red) receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it to the systemic circuit. The upper, receiving chambers are the atria, the lower, pumping chambers are the ventricles.
