Enzymes

Metabolic reactions occur in a series of steps called a metabolic pathway. The products of the first reaction become the reactants in the next reaction and so on until an end product is formed. To facilitate these reactions, each reaction is associated with a unique enzyme. An enzyme allows a reaction to occur more easily. The reactants are called the substrates for that enzyme.
