Hundreds of pigment molecules are clustered in antenna complexes. These molecules absorb energy from incoming light. They transfer the energy to a reaction center consisting of a particular pair of chlorophyll molecules. One of the electrons in this pair of molecules increases in energy level and is passed to an electron transport chain.
