The plant kingdom includes over 250,000 species. Among them are the world’s largest individual organism, the giant redwood, and the world’s oldest individual organism, the 5,000 year-old bristlecone pine. Plants are the dominant photosynthetic organisms on land and thus form the base of all terrestrial food webs.
