Fruits

Fruits and seeds can be dispersed by wind, as illustrated by the dandelion seed. Some fruits, such as the coconut, are dispersed by water. Some seeds can move modest distances by explosive means, such as when the pods of garbanzo beans rapidly split. Seeds with barbs or hooks disperse by attaching to animal fur. Many fruits are dispersed by animals in a mutualistic system. Animals are attracted to the nutritious fruits and disperse seeds when they consume the fruits.
