The Angiosperms (Phylum Anthophyta) are the flowering plants, the most diverse and most geographically widespread plants present today. The reproductive organs are in the flowers. Most species offer a nectar or pollen reward to insects or birds to attract them to the flowers and induce them to assist in pollination. The colors and scents of flowers assist pollinators in finding plants. Following fertilization the ovules develop surrounded by ovary tissue that becomes the fruit. |
