A community is a group of species living in the same environment. A desert environment and a mountain meadow environment are shown in the photos. Within each environment are species of plants, animals, fungi, protists and bacteria. In community ecology, the focus is on a set of species, often of the same type, living in a particular environment. For example, within the desert environment we might wish to study the tree species community, or the bird community, or even a more specialized group such as the ant species community. |
