Introduction

The biosphere is the part of the earth that contains living organisms. It includes: the upper 1-2 miles of the lithosphere, which has been found to contain many bacteria; the surface of the earth, including aquatic systems, which contains most of the life; and the lower atmosphere, which has been found to contain windblown organisms, seeds, and spores.
