Chloroplasts reradiate light with a longer wavelength than the light that they are initially illuminated. A beaker of chloroplasts illuminated with normal light will reradiate at invisible infrared wavelengths. One that is illuminated with higher energy ultraviolet light will reradiate in the visible red range.
