Dr. Warren Dolphin is a professor of Zoology and Genetics, and Coordinator of the Undergraduate Biology Program at Iowa State University (ISU). In 1994, he was named University of Professor, an honorary title for his contributions to the teaching, research, and service functions of ISU. He has recently worked with several biology faculty members to create an innovative computer network application used to teach biology courses.
Dr. Dolphin was born in Philadelphia, PA. He received his B.S. degree from West Chester State University (PA) in 1962, and his Ph.D. in Zoology (Cell Biology) from The Ohio State University in 1968. He spent two years as a NIH fellow and assistant professor at the University of Maine before moving to ISU in 1970. At ISU, he did research in protozoan metabolism, taught both graduate and undergraduate courses, then shifted his interest to pedagogy.
Dr. Dolphin's attention is currently focused on instructional technology, curriculum and development, and teaching techniques. He has led various projects and initiatives like producing instructional videotapes for introductory biology, investigating testing procedures and student achievement, and combining the study of math with the study of biology.
