Chapter 10: Photosynthesis

Understanding photosynthesis is a very important part of the study of biology. The metabolism in virtually every ecosystem begins with photosynthesis, and it is essential in the maintenance of the atmospheric oxygen on which animals depend. Historically, photosynthesis underlies the oxidative metabolism carried out by animal mitochondria. The evolution of such different metabolic systems demonstrates the flexibility and potential resourcefulness of a genetic system.
