Chapter 11: The Dynamic Cell

Cells are constantly doing work. They metabolize, grow, and move about. They produce signals to which other cells respond, and they respond to signals from other cells and the environment. Biosynthetic pathways with their enzymes depend on hundreds of quite specific interactions, including those between enzyme and substrate. Growth involves fitting molecules together in quite precise ways. Cell movements, by means of microtubules or actin, depend on molecules interacting with each other.
