This chapter's focus, the biosphere, is defined as the part of the planet where all organisms live, or the sum of the earth's ecosystems. The structure of the biosphere is examined in detail, along with the energy that drives it. Other forces, including geographical, geological, and meteorological, are also examined and their contributions to the overall biosphere are explained.
