This chapter begins with a section on nutrition in plants. Plants are similar to most other organisms in that they require specific chemical elements for metabolic activities. The source of most of the elements required for plant life is the soil. The second part of this chapter focuses on soil. The complicated ecosystems that are soils are explored. The third section in this chapter discusses agricultural practices of the past, present, and future. The last section in this chapter focuses on several categories of very unusual plants.
