Biochemistry

Introduction to glycolysis
An introduction to the basics of glycolysis.
Glycolysis
Another introduction to the basics of glycolysis. This one is sponsored by the BioTech site maintained by the Indiana Institute for Molecular and Cellular Biology at Indiana University.
Metabolic pathways
This site provides an index of metabolic pathways grouped by product/substrate and enzyme name.
NetBiochem
This page at the School of Medicine of the University of Utah contains some information about medical (i.e., human) biochemistry.
Metabolic Pathways of Biochemistry
Located at George Washington University, this site is "designed to graphically represent all major metabolic pathways, primarily those important to human biochemistry." There are a number of nice graphics of biochemical pathways here including several three-dimensional representations.
Library of 3-D Molecular Structures
This great site from the MathMol (Mathematics & Molecules) Home Page (located at Academic Computing Facility of New York University) has many fine three-dimensional representations of biologically important molecules including hydrocarbons, amino acids and lipids and sugars. Recommended: Chime plugin or VRML plugin
WebElements
WebElements provides a clickable version of the periodic table of elements. Clicking on a particular element provides specific information about the element (e.g., atomic number, atomic weight, standard state) as well as other interesting information.
ChemFinder
This database of information on chemical compounds allows you to enter the name, molecular formula or molecular weight of a compound. Information is returned on the compound of interest including synonyms, chemical formula and structure as well as other specific information. Warning: If you connect to this site, within a few uses of the database you will be asked to register, which is free, but still a tad pesky.
Glactone
As the main page states: "Glactone is a three year project funded by the Chancellor of the University System of Georgia. The goal of this project to provide computer-based resources for chemistry and biochemistry students and faculty in the State of Georgia." Glactone is housed at the Department of Chemistry at Georgia State University and provides a large collection of images and PDB (protein database) files of biological molecules. Recommended: Chime plugin
Organic Chemistry On-Line
This is a great site from the Department of Chemistry at The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). The material consists of a tutorial in five modules: 1) a library of models of organic compound and tutorials on 2) structure & bonding, 3) spectroscopy, 4) stereochemistry and 5) functional group reactions. Required: Chime plugin and a JavaScript-enabled browser
Biomolecular Structures
This is an online course from the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at Göteborg University . The material consists of a fairly detailed tutorial on three-dimensional structure of biological molecules and is built around interactive molecular models. (Note the extensive use of exclamation marks throughout the material at this site!) Required: Chime plugin
WebMolecules
This site is sponsored by Molecular Arts Corporation, a producer of for software and multimedia materials fo scientific and technical documentation. They maintain an impressive library of over 2,000 interactive 3D models of molecules, including many that are biologically important and all can be accessed and manipulated online. Required: VRML plugin
