Question 1. When Gause and others run the two paramecium/one medium experiment to test the only-one-species in-a-niche hypothesis, often either one can be the surviving species--it is not always the same species that dominates. Why might this be true?

Question 2. Rodents in Vietnam live with the plague bacteria without getting sick; rodents in India are moderately resistant and rodents in Europe are killed rapidly. In contrast, peoples of European origin may become ill with tuberculosis but rarely die of it, while the same bacterial tuberculosis is a much more virulent disease in Asia. Medical researchers strongly believe that plague historically originated in southeast Asia and tuberculosis was only recently introduced into Asia. Why?
