Critical Thinking Activities - Chapter 36

Question 1. A farmer is building a fence between his field and a road. There are some young trees in the fence line, so he spaces the expensive fence posts so that the tree trunks will also serve as fence posts. He staples the top line of the fence to the tree at five feet above the ground. The tree grows in height five feet each year. Where will the top strand of the fence be in ten years?

Question 2. Which season of the year should lumber be cut so the wood will be driest? Why do the cut-off trunks then "boil-over" with sugary sap?
