Critical Thinking Activities - Chapter 47
Question 1. There are about 1,000 different odor receptor proteins and only three types of cones for color. Therefore, why do we not just see three different colors and smell just a thousand odors?
Question 2. When the eardrum or tympanic membrane is impacted by an external sound wave, it moves less than a fraction of the diameter of the smallest atom. How can such a small pressure wave be detected by our neurons?
Answers are available to instructors in the Instructor's Manual.
