Chapter 19 Outline
Darwin and Evolution
This chapter is divided into two parts. The first
part is a consideration of Darwin's contribution and his formulation
of a mechanism of evolution by natural selection. The second part
discusses evidences for evolution.
Chapter Outline
In this chapter outline, the learning objectives
and the selected key terms are given for each major head in the
chapter.
The World Was Ready (p. 295)
1. Show that scientific world views were beginning to change during the eighteenth century.

8. Describe natural selection as a process that results in adaptation to the environment.
biogeography, natural selection, fitness, adaptation
Evidences Accumulate (p. 304)
9. Explain how the fossil record, biogeography, comparative anatomy, comparative embryology, and comparative biochemistry support a hypothesis of common descent.
